TRAGIC SEASIDE TRAGEDY: Inquest reveals brain injury details after boy dies alongside hero cousin and mum in Essex drowning
A tragic family holiday ended in immense grief after a seven-year-old boy drowned alongside his teen cousin and her mother off the coast of Essex. Musa Ahmed, seven, died at the Royal London Hospital six days after getting into severe difficulties in the water at West Mersea on July 22. His fifteen-year-old cousin Sameeha Rahman and her forty-one-year-old mother Shelina Rahman also lost their lives in the horror.
An inquest opened at Chelmsford County Hall heard that the trio were part of a group of five relatives enjoying a seaside getaway when tragedy struck near the Sea View Holiday Park. Emergency responders managed to bring young Musa to shore, where medical personnel stabilized him before airlifting him to the hospital. However, despite intensive medical care, the young boy ultimately succumbed to his injuries days later.
Provisional post-mortem findings presented to the court recorded drowning as the primary cause of death for all three victims. For Musa, pathologists also cited a hypoxic ischaemic brain injury caused by a prolonged lack of oxygen during the incident. Senior coroner for Essex Lincoln Brookes expressed profound sorrow, noting the immeasurable impact of losing three members of a single family simultaneously.
It is understood that Shelina and her daughter Sameeha valiantly rushed into the water in a desperate bid to rescue Musa from a sudden, dangerous tide. Tragically, both the mother and teenager were quickly overwhelmed by the current themselves. The heartbroken husband and father, Dr. Mansur Rahman, forty-nine, shared his overwhelming shock, asking the public for prayers as he copes with the catastrophic loss.
In a formal statement, Musa’s family expressed deep gratitude to the intensive care staff at the Royal London Hospital for their compassionate care during the boy’s final days. The family also thanked the local community for their overwhelming support and requested complete privacy as they grieve. The coroner officially adjourned the full inquest proceedings until January 19, 2027.
Essex Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the triple drowning. Authorities have appealed for any witnesses or individuals with footage from the area at the time of the incident to contact law enforcement officers. As the investigation continues, the seaside community remains deeply shaken by the tragic loss of three lives.
