Cries in prison: Sobbing baby killer Jamie Varley quakes in terror as HMP Wakefield inmates line up to attack him

Convicted child killer Jamie Varley has reportedly been left “sobbing and quaking” in sheer terror after arriving at HMP Wakefield, one of Britain’s most notorious maximum-security prisons. The 37-year-old former teacher was recently transferred to the Category A facility to begin a life sentence for the horrific sexual abuse and murder of his 13-month-old adopted son, Preston Davey. However, sources within the jail reveal that hardened inmates had been eagerly awaiting his arrival, openly vowing to be “the one to hurt him first.”

The hostile reception began the moment Varley stepped inside the prison walls, with inmates hammering aggressively on cell doors and shouting violent threats to break him psychologically. “There’s a bounty on his head,” a prison source disclosed. “The other prisoners knew he was coming and they waited for him. They want him scared and they want to make his time inside as awful as they can – and now he knows he has a lot of time inside to serve. He is never getting out.” Due to the immediate, severe threat to his life and concerns over self-harm, prison authorities have placed Varley in strict segregation under constant supervision.

Experts warn that the former teacher will face an unrelenting campaign of “non-stop psychological warfare” from the prison population. He is expected to be targeted by a wide cross-section of inmates, ranging from general population prisoners looking to boost their criminal “street cred” to highly violent Category A offenders who view attacking child abusers as a form of distorted vigilante justice. Whenever Varley is forced to leave his cell, he will be subjected to constant death threats and loudly labeled a “nonce” or “beast” by his fellow convicts.

The grim reality of HMP Wakefield, historically dubbed the “Monster Mansion,” offers no escape for the high-profile prisoner. A recent inspector’s report warned that violence at the prison has “increased markedly,” with serious assaults rising sharply over the past year. Mark Fairhurst, national chairman of the Prison Officers’ Association, emphasized the extreme danger facing the child killer. “I would imagine its newest high-profile prisoner will be a major target for individuals who find his offence as repulsive as the general public,” Fairhurst stated. “If I was him I would stay in segregation.”

Varley’s life sentence follows an agonizing eight-week trial at Preston Crown Court, which detailed the months of horrific abuse Baby Preston suffered before his tragic death in 2023. His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, was also jailed for 25 years for his role in the sexual abuse, child cruelty, and for allowing the toddler’s death. While both men are now safely behind bars, Varley’s new life inside Wakefield promises to be a waking nightmare defined by constant fear and isolation.
