HEARTBREAK IN COURT: Nine-year-old boy demands answers from honeytrap killers who poisoned his father
A heart-wrenching confrontation unfolded at Oxford Crown Court as a nine-year-old boy demanded answers from the Romanian couple who killed his father in a calculated drug-and-rob scheme. Alfie Mouat addressed thirty-one-year-old Adina Mihai and thirty-year-old Madalin Dumitru, asking why they had to murder his dad when he would have willingly handed over his money. The emotional video statement was played as the defendants sat to receive their seventeen-year prison sentences.
The court heard how Mihai posed as a sex worker to gain entry into men’s homes before spiking their wine with gamma-butyrolactone, a powerful and unpredictable sedative known as GBL. Dumitru and Mihai used the drug to render four victims deeply unconscious so they could steal cash, jewelry, and valuables. However, the dangerous dosage proved fatal for thirty-six-year-old Gary Mouat and eighty-year-old Malcolm King.
In his recorded victim impact statement, young Alfie described his dad as a loving, silly trickster whose loss left a permanent void in his life. The grieving boy shared how his heart hurts so much he feels like he needs to reboot it, explaining that the killers destroyed all their future plans together. Alfie expressed deep sorrow over milestones they will never share, including attending football matches or having his first beer with his father.
The traumatized child also detailed the severe psychological toll the tragedy took on his daily life, revealing persistent nightmares and constant fear for his mother’s safety. He told the court that he spent months terrified that someone would come to their home to hurt her too. Alfie stated that he would never get over his father’s death, pledging to spend the rest of his life trying to make him proud.
Presiding judge Mrs Justice Brunner sentenced both defendants to seventeen years after they pleaded guilty to manslaughter and administering poison. The judge emphasized that the pair administered haphazard doses of toxic GBL without considering the extreme risk of fatal respiratory failure. The court noted that even basic open-source research would have revealed how toxic the substance was before they targeted their victims.
The sentencing brings a legal conclusion to a predatory robbery operation that left two families devastated and two other victims traumatized. Prosecutor records confirmed that two additional surviving victims cannot be identified due to strict court restrictions. While the killers begin their lengthy prison terms, Alfie’s family faces the long road of healing from a senseless crime.
