In an emotional public appeal that has captured the attention of people across the United States, a Utah mother has begged for the safe return of her two young sons, who authorities believe were abducted by their father amid an ongoing custody dispute.
Lizzie Tomich, visibly emotional and fighting back tears, spoke directly to the father of her children in a heartfelt video posted on social media. “I just want to get my kids back,” she said, her voice cracking with raw desperation. “I pray every day that they’re okay and they’re safe.”
The two boys — 22-month-old Will Richman and 10-month-old Wesley Richman — were last seen on May 16 in Saratoga Springs, Utah. Police say their father, Dane Stephens Richman, took them without permission, triggering a statewide Amber Alert and an intense multi-agency search effort.
Tomich, who holds full legal custody of the children according to court documents, has been pleading publicly for their father to do the right thing and bring the boys home safely. In her emotional message, she addressed Dane directly: “Please, just take the boys somewhere safe. Take them to a hospital or fire station and just surrender. This doesn’t have to define the rest of your life. You are their father. You will always be their father. Just please bring the boys back safely.”
The case has gripped Utah residents, many of whom have joined volunteer searches and shared the Amber Alert across social media platforms in hopes of generating new leads.
A Custody Battle Turned Dangerous
According to authorities, the situation escalated during what was already a contentious custody dispute between Tomich and Richman. Court records indicate Tomich had been granted full custody, with Richman having limited visitation rights. However, on May 16, Richman allegedly took the children and has not been seen since.
Police have described Richman as “seriously depressed” and have expressed concern for both his mental state and the safety of the two toddlers. He is considered armed and dangerous, and investigators have warned the public not to approach him if sighted.
The boys were last known to be wearing specific clothing when they disappeared. Will, the older toddler, was last seen in a blue shirt and gray shorts, while baby Wesley was wearing a white onesie. Both children have brown hair and brown eyes, and authorities have urged anyone with information to contact police immediately.

Community and Law Enforcement Response
The search for Will and Wesley has involved multiple agencies, including the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and local police departments. Billboards displaying the Amber Alert have gone up across the state, and helicopter searches have covered large areas of wilderness and rural terrain where Richman might be hiding.
Local residents have rallied around the family, organizing prayer vigils and distributing flyers with the children’s photos. Many parents in Saratoga Springs have expressed their own fears, saying the case hits particularly hard because it involves such young, vulnerable children.
One neighbour told reporters: “Those little boys are so tiny. To think they might be out there somewhere with someone who’s unstable is terrifying. We just want them home safe with their mom.”
Tomich’s family has also spoken out, emphasising that the boys’ mother is devastated and struggling to cope with the uncertainty. In interviews, relatives described Lizzie as a devoted mother who had been fighting through the court system to protect her children.
Fears Grow as Search Continues
As days turn into weeks since the boys were last seen, authorities have grown increasingly concerned about their well-being. With limited confirmed sightings, investigators are working around the clock to track Richman’s possible movements, financial transactions, and known associates.
The case has also sparked broader conversations about the dangers that can arise during high-conflict custody battles and the need for stronger safeguards when one parent expresses mental health struggles or has a history of instability.
Child safety advocates have used the situation to highlight how quickly a family dispute can escalate into a missing persons crisis, calling for better coordination between family courts and law enforcement when red flags appear.
A Mother’s Desperate Hope
In her most recent public statement, Lizzie Tomich tried to speak not only to the father of her children but also to the public at large. She expressed her daily torment and unwavering love for her sons, saying she wakes up every morning hoping today will be the day they are found safe.
“I miss them so much,” she said in the emotional video. “There’s no world without them.”
Her raw vulnerability has resonated deeply with mothers across the country who have shared similar stories of custody battles and fear for their children’s safety. The video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, with many commenters offering prayers and support while urging anyone with information to come forward.
For now, the search continues with no confirmed sightings of Richman or the two boys. Authorities remain hopeful that public awareness will lead to a breakthrough, while Lizzie Tomich clings to faith that her children will be returned unharmed.
The Amber Alert remains active throughout Utah and neighbouring states. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Will, Wesley, or Dane Richman is urged to contact law enforcement immediately without attempting to approach them.
As the community holds its collective breath, one mother’s simple but powerful plea continues to echo: “I just want to get my kids back.”
