Devastating Journey for Parents of Thai Teen Found Stuffed in Suitcase: Aussie Simon Carman Charged with Murder.

The parents of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla (nicknamed Cake) are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare. Their only daughter, an innocent teen from Kalasin province, traveled to the vibrant beach city of Pattaya for a holiday with a friend. She never came home. Her naked body was discovered stuffed inside a black suitcase, discarded in tall grass beside railway tracks.

Australian tourist Simon Peter Carman, 46, from Victoria, has been charged with her murder. Police arrested him at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport as he allegedly tried to board a flight to Perth. CCTV footage reportedly shows Tunchanok entering his building with him in the early hours. Later, he was seen wheeling a large suitcase out the back door. Her body was found shortly after.

Disturbing details continue to emerge. Carman allegedly kept her body in the room for hours, going about “normal” activities like shopping, dining, and laundry before attempting to dispose of the suitcase. He faces additional charges including concealing a body and taking a minor for indecent purposes. Scratch marks were reportedly visible on him at arrest. He has denied the charges, with varying accounts emerging.

Tunchanok’s family, including father Thongchai and stepmother Oradee, made the painful journey from Kalasin to Pattaya to collect her body. Their eyes swollen from crying, they expressed profound grief. “My daughter had no mother, so whenever she wanted anything, she would find a way herself, and she always helped me too,” her father said. The stepmother added they were terrified upon hearing about the suitcase and clung to fading hope.

This case highlights the vulnerabilities young travelers face in tourist hotspots like Pattaya, known for its nightlife. An only child who was independent and helpful, Tunchanok’s bright future was cruelly cut short. Her parents’ message to the accused carries raw pain and a demand for accountability: they will never forgive.

From a broader view, tragedies like this expose gaps in safety for minors in entertainment districts and the need for swift international cooperation in cross-border cases. While Carman is presumed innocent until proven guilty, the evidence presented so far paints a chilling picture of betrayal and brutality. Families deserve truth and justice. Tunchanok’s story should fuel stronger protections against exploitation and better support for grieving loved ones forced to endure such horrific realities.
