In a case that has devastated a community in Pilgrims Hatch, Essex, new revelations about GPS data from the suspect vehicle have intensified the murder investigation into the death of 12-year-old Bobby Bloomfield. The promising young schoolboy was struck by a car on Ashwells Road on the evening of June 7, 2026, and tragically died a short time later in hospital despite emergency efforts.
According to court proceedings and police updates, Bobby and his friends were on private property when they were approached and told to leave. What followed has been described in harrowing detail: the boys ran off, only to be pursued by a vehicle driven by a 15-year-old boy, with 43-year-old William Lunnon as a passenger. Prosecutors allege the car struck Bobby, after which the teen driver allegedly exited and punched and kicked the boy before leaving him on the side of the road.
Shocking GPS data reportedly uncovered during the investigation shows the vehicle circling the impact zone for nearly 38 minutes prior to the fatal collision. This evidence has raised serious questions about intent, transforming what some might have claimed was a tragic accident into a full-scale murder inquiry. Essex Police’s Serious Crime Directorate continues to build a detailed picture, with additional arrests made on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
Bobby, a student at Shenfield High School, was found with serious injuries shortly before 5:40pm. He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. His family released a heartbreaking statement: “Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare. We are living that nightmare… Bobby brought light and life into all our lives and we have lost that forever. The hole he has left can never be filled.”
Both the 15-year-old (who cannot be named for legal reasons) and William Lunnon, of Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch, have been charged with murder. They appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, where they were remanded in custody. A provisional trial date has been set, with further hearings at Chelmsford Crown Court. Four other individuals from the area remain in custody in connection with the case.
The local community and Bobby’s school have expressed profound sadness. Floral tributes have appeared near the scene, and friends remember Bobby as a bright, joyful boy who lit up every room. Comedian Josh James, a cousin, shared emotional tributes online, highlighting the immense loss felt by all who knew him.
This tragedy has sparked widespread calls for justice and reflection on youth safety, property disputes, and road dangers. Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood emphasized the complexity of the investigation while urging anyone with information to come forward: “Even the smallest detail could help us build a clear and accurate picture of events.”
As the legal process unfolds, the GPS evidence stands as a pivotal element, potentially proving critical in court. It paints a picture far more sinister than a simple hit-and-run, suggesting the vehicle lingered deliberately in the area where Bobby and his friends were playing.
Bobby’s short life touched many, and his death has united neighbors in grief and support for his family. The coming months in court will seek answers for why this young boy, full of potential, was taken so cruelly. For now, the focus remains on supporting those left behind and ensuring accountability.
The pain of such a senseless loss is immeasurable. As details emerge, this case serves as a stark reminder of how quickly an ordinary afternoon can turn into unimaginable tragedy — and the importance of community vigilance and justice for young lives cut short.
