CLOSET WALL HOME INVASION: Georgia predator arrested after breaking into teen bedroom during terrifying assault
A Gainesville neighborhood remains in shock after local law enforcement intervened in a violent late-night residential ambush targeting an underage victim. Twenty-nine-year-old Obed Reyes was taken into custody by Gainesville Police officers following a frantic 911 dispatch to an apartment complex on August 5. The suspect faces serious felony charges after allegedly carving an opening through the interior wall of his own residence to breach the adjoining home of a fifteen-year-old neighbor.
Court documents reveal that the suspect targeted the shared sheetrock divider inside his bedroom closet, demolishing the wall to create a crawl space directly into the neighboring apartment. The fifteen-year-old victim was inside the adjacent room babysitting two young family members, aged five and seven, when the partition collapsed. Reyes allegedly squeezed through the jagged hole and ambushed the teenager in front of the horrified children.
Arrest records detail a violent struggle inside the bedroom as the intruder punched the minor multiple times and explicitly threatened sexual violence. The victim resisted the attack and managed to break away toward the front exit to protect the young children. However, the assailant gave chase into the outdoor hallway, grabbing the girl by her hair and attempting to drag her down the pavement toward the street.

The victim’s desperate cries for help echoed across the complex, alerting nearby neighbors who immediately phoned emergency dispatchers. Responding patrol officers arrived at the scene around ten in the evening, discovering Reyes actively assaulting the victim in the open courtyard area. Officers swiftly subdued the suspect on the ground and placed him in handcuffs, bringing an immediate halt to the violent confrontation.
Reyes is currently detained without bond at the Hall County Jail on a comprehensive list of charges, including burglary, aggravated assault, attempted rape, kidnapping, and two counts of cruelty to children. In addition to state felony counts, an administrative immigration detainer has been lodged against the suspect while federal authorities review his residency status. Hall County prosecutors are preparing formal indictment filings ahead of upcoming judicial proceedings.
Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish praised the rapid community reaction, emphasizing that immediate neighbor intervention and prompt emergency reporting prevented an even greater catastrophe. Support personnel and family assistance advocates have been assigned to help the young victim and her family navigate the traumatic aftermath of the home invasion. Meanwhile, property managers are conducting structural reviews of the residential partitions across the complex.
