Court Documents Detail Prosecutors’ Allegations In Fatal Stabbing Of Texas Mother As Surveillance Footage Becomes Key Evidence
Newly filed court documents have provided additional details about the fatal stabbing of 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña, outlining prosecutors’ allegations regarding the confrontation that led to the Texas mother’s death.
The case has drawn widespread attention in Del Rio, where investigators allege surveillance footage captured portions of the incident. Three women—19-year-old Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 21-year-old Kitty Mia Diaz, and 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz—have been charged with murder. Each remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
According to prosecutors, the confrontation began outside a residence following an ongoing dispute.
Court filings allege that Peña arrived at the location before an altercation quickly escalated. Investigators say surveillance video, witness interviews, forensic evidence, and physical evidence recovered from the scene form the foundation of the prosecution’s case.
The criminal complaint alleges that Amaya Diaz exited the passenger side of a vehicle carrying a knife and stabbed Peña during the confrontation.
According to prosecutors, Peña sustained a stab wound to her back before the altercation continued. The complaint further alleges that Kitty Mia Diaz and Kyandra Renee Faz subsequently became involved in the physical assault. Those allegations have not yet been tested in court.
Emergency responders arrived after the incident and transported Peña to a nearby hospital.
