Nearly eight years after 2-year-old Zaela Walker disappeared without a trace in Nevada, her parents have now pleaded guilty in connection with her death, bringing a tragic breakthrough to a case that haunted investigators and devastated the community for years. Authorities confirmed that Zaela’s body has never been recovered, despite years of investigation and nationwide attention surrounding the missing child case.
According to reports and court records, Zaela’s father, Ricky Beasley, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while her mother, Lakeia Walker, pleaded guilty to accessory to murder as part of negotiated plea agreements tied to the child’s disappearance.

The case dates back to August 2018, when North Las Vegas police began investigating after Zaela was reported missing. Authorities said the child had been with her father while her mother attended a job interview. Investigators later stated that the parents met at a local park, where Beasley allegedly refused to return the child to Walker.
According to police, Walker contacted authorities at the time because she was concerned about Zaela missing a doctor’s appointment related to a swollen lymph node. Investigators later alleged that Beasley demanded $13,000 if Walker wanted her daughter returned. The bizarre and disturbing allegations quickly intensified as detectives attempted to piece together the toddler’s final known movements.
Officials from the North Las Vegas Police Department said Beasley’s mother later told investigators she heard a loud noise inside the home and then saw Beasley carrying Zaela into the bathroom. According to investigators, Beasley allegedly claimed the child had urinated on herself and admitted he became angry and threw a cot. Authorities said that incident marked the final time anyone outside the parents reportedly saw the little girl alive.
Investigators later uncovered internet searches allegedly made by Beasley involving seizures and marijuana treatment methods. Police stated he subsequently visited a cannabis dispensary to purchase a pre-rolled marijuana product shortly after the incident involving Zaela. Authorities have not publicly detailed exactly how prosecutors believe the child died, but investigators spent years building a timeline surrounding her disappearance and the parents’ actions afterward.
According to law enforcement officials, the parents fled Nevada shortly after Zaela vanished. Investigators stated that on August 22, 2018, the couple abandoned Walker’s phone, wallet, and vehicle before leaving town using Beasley’s mother’s car. Authorities later tracked the pair traveling through several states before eventually heading toward Mexico.
Police said the couple returned briefly to Nevada in September 2018 only to obtain money before continuing their attempt to leave the country. Investigators later located the pair in Texas during November 2018 while they were allegedly attempting to establish new lives away from Nevada. Public appeals seeking help locating the parents were later issued by North Las Vegas police.
Beasley was arrested in December 2018, while Walker was taken into custody several months later in March 2019. A grand jury subsequently indicted both parents on multiple charges connected to Zaela’s disappearance and death. In addition to the murder-related offenses, Beasley also faced allegations involving kidnapping, vehicle theft, and unlawful taking of a vehicle.
The guilty pleas now bring partial resolution to one of Nevada’s most disturbing missing child cases, though the absence of Zaela’s body continues leaving painful unanswered questions for investigators and the community. Child advocates and legal analysts note that plea agreements in cases without recovered remains are sometimes pursued to secure accountability and avoid uncertainties associated with lengthy murder trials.
Public reaction to the pleas has been emotional, with many expressing grief that the child’s remains have still not been located despite nearly a decade of investigation. Others focused on the devastating reality that Zaela would have been 10 years old this year had she survived. Social media discussions surrounding the case reflected both anger and sadness as details from the investigation resurfaced publicly following the plea agreements.
Court records indicate that Beasley could face between 10 and 25 years in prison or life with the possibility of parole after 10 years. Walker faces a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison under the terms connected to her plea. Sentencing for both parents is currently expected to take place on July 23.
As the case moves toward final sentencing, many people following the investigation say the tragedy remains especially heartbreaking because a young child vanished for years while those closest to her allegedly concealed the truth. Even with the guilty pleas now entered, authorities continue facing the painful reality that Zaela Walker’s body has never been found, leaving one of the most devastating chapters of the case still unresolved.
