The Amnesia Trap: The Billionaire’s Final Betrayal
The floor-to-ceiling glass walls of our thirty-million-dollar high-tech smart mansion in Beverly Hills offered a breathless view of the Los Angeles basin. Inside the master suite, the automated ambient lights dimmed to a cold, clinical blue.
I sat in an state-of-the-art motorized wheelchair, my posture slumped, my gaze vacant and unblinking. Three weeks ago, a “minor” brake failure in my sports car sent me crashing into a guardrail. The medical report stated I suffered severe spinal shock and retrograde amnesia. To the world, I was Ethan Vance—the brilliant thirty-eight-year-old tech billionaire reduced to a helpless, mindless shell.
The heavy motorized double doors clicked open.
My twenty-eight-year-old wife, Amanda, a former supermodel with eyes as sharp and cold as diamonds, glided into the room. Walking brazenly behind her, unbuttoning his leather jacket, was Ryan—her thirty-year-old personal fitness trainer.
Amanda walked up to my wheelchair, a cruel, mocking smile playing on her lips. She reached out and slapped my cheek lightly with her manicured hand.
TAP.
“How is my foolish little husband today?” Amanda purred, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness and deep disdain. “Is the special medicine the doctor gave you tasting good? From today onward, Ryan isn’t just your ‘personal nurse’—he’s the new master of this mansion.”
Ryan wrapped his arm around Amanda’s waist right in front of my face, pulling her close and kissing her neck without a shred of shame.
“Thanks a lot, buddy,” Ryan chuckled, looking down at me with arrogant amusement. “Thanks to your fake corporate bankruptcy rumors, I get a gorgeous wife and a multi-million-dollar tech empire all in one package.”
Amanda pulled a crisp stack of legal documents from her designer handbag, along with an ink pad.
“Time to sign, you mindless freak,” Amanda spat, grabbing my limp right hand and forcing my thumb into the blue ink. “Just a little thumbprint on this total asset power-of-attorney, and every share of your company belongs to Ryan and me.”
She pressed my ink-covered thumb toward the signature line.
Just as my thumb was millimeters away from touching the paper, my hand stopped dead in mid-air.
Amanda’s brow furrowed. “What… press down, you idiot!”
Slowly, deliberately, my fingers wrapped around her wrist like a vice made of solid steel. The blank, vacant fog in my eyes evaporated, replaced by an icy, lethal glare that made Amanda’s breath hitch in her throat.
I stood up smoothly from the wheelchair, towering over her.
Amanda stumbled backward in utter terror, dropping the ink pad onto the white marble floor. “Ethan?! You… you’re not paralyzed?! You didn’t lose your memory?!”
“Not even a second of it, Amanda,” I said softly, my voice calm and razor-sharp.
I reached into my pocket and pressed a single button on a sleek smart-home remote.
Instantly, the motorized blackout shades rolled up, bathing the room in harsh afternoon sunlight. At the same time, the massive 100-inch OLED wall display powered on, revealing a split-screen live conference feed. On the left were all twelve members of my corporation’s Board of Directors; on the right were the Justices of the California Supreme Court and federal prosecutors.
“What is that?!” Ryan yelled, his cocky smile vanishing.
“Every word, every slap, and every confession you two just made was broadcast live in 4K resolution to the board and the court,” I announced.
Panicked, Ryan lunged at me with a raised fist. “You set us up, you bastard!”
Before Ryan’s fist could reach me, the master bedroom doors were kicked open with a deafening crash. Four heavily armed federal agents surged into the room, guns raised, tackling Ryan to the marble floor and pinning his arms behind his back.
Amanda collapsed onto her knees beside the bed, sobbing hysterically as she stared at the flashing police lights outside the glass walls. “Ryan! Do something! We’re ruined!”
I walked over to the agent pinning Ryan down, looking at the young trainer with a faint, appreciative smile.
“Great work, Ryan,” I said smoothly. “Your one-million-dollar undercover private investigator contract is officially fulfilled.”
Amanda’s cries stopped abruptly. She froze, turning her head toward Ryan in absolute, paralyzing horror. “Ryan?! What… what is he talking about?! You betrayed me?!”
Ryan calmly allowed the federal agents to unhook his fake restraints. He stood up, adjusted his jacket, and unclipped a hidden micro-camera badge from his lapel.
“I am a licensed private investigator, Amanda,” Ryan said, looking down at her with utter disgust. “Ethan hired me six months ago when he first suspected you were manipulating his medical prescriptions. Did you honestly think a sane man would fall in love with a sociopath who attempted to murder her husband for his estate?”
Amanda’s jaw dropped. Her face drained of all color as the realization of her total defeat crushed her.
“Amanda Vance,” the lead federal agent announced, pulling her up by her arms and clicking steel handcuffs around her wrists. “You are under arrest for attempted murder by poisoning, conspiracy to commit corporate fraud, and grand larceny.”
As the agents dragged a screaming, hysterical Amanda out of my Beverly Hills estate, Ryan handed me the encrypted hard drive containing six months of pristine forensic evidence.
“Pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Vance,” Ryan said, shaking my hand.
“The pleasure was all mine,” I replied.
I stood alone in my glass sanctuary, looking out over the glowing Los Angeles skyline under the California sun—completely healthy, completely wealthy, and finally free of the viper in my home.
