Courtroom Chaos: Young Mum Collapses in Tears as Prosecutors Detail Newborn’s 15 Stab Wounds and Horrific Discovery – But Darker Questions Still Haunt the Case
A Sheffield courtroom was filled with tears and stunned silence this week as 20-year-old Andrea Skopova broke down completely while prosecutors outlined the alleged murder of her newborn daughter. The young mother, one of four Slovakian nationals facing the most serious charges, was visibly overcome as details of the attack emerged: the infant, known only as Baby S, suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings to her face and torso before her body was found wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag on top of a washing machine in an outhouse.
The baby was born in the early hours of Sunday, 30 August 2026, at approximately 37 weeks at a property in Holywell Heights, Wincobank. Shortly afterwards Skopova attended hospital. Medical staff raised concerns about the infant’s safety and contacted police. Officers arrived at the address around 6 a.m. and discovered the tiny body in the outbuilding. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as stab wounds and established that the child had been alive when the injuries were inflicted.
Skopova, formerly of Robey Street, Sheffield, appears alongside her boyfriend Peter Horvath Jr, 19, and his parents Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37. All four face charges of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by allegedly cleaning the scene and concealing the killing. A 15-year-old girl has been charged with perverting the course of justice. The four adults were remanded in custody; the teenager was also remanded into youth custody. Their trial is scheduled to begin on 12 April 2027 and is expected to last six to seven weeks.
Prosecutors told the court that Skopova is the mother and that the identity of the father remains unknown; Peter Horvath Jr is not believed to be the biological father. The relationships inside the household and the precise sequence of events in the hours after the birth remain central to the case. What unfolded behind the closed doors of the property in the critical period after the birth is still largely unanswered. How the infant came to sustain such extensive injuries, who was present, and what led to the decision to hide the body are questions that the forthcoming trial will have to examine in detail.

Skopova’s collapse as the graphic details were read out underscored the human cost of the allegations. Yet the legal process is only beginning. Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail. Police continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the death of a child who never had the chance to leave the house where she was born.
