James Bulger was just two years old when he was abducted from a Bootle shopping center and fatally assaulted on a railway line in Merseyside in 1993. His killers, Venables and Robert Thompson, were ten years old at the time of the atrocity and were released in 2001 after serving eight years, receiving lifelong anonymity and taxpayer-funded new identities.
