Serial sex predator Simon Levy given whole-life order after deadly London rampage
A dangerous serial sex predator who murdered two women and brutally raped a third during a horrifying crime spree across London has been sentenced to die behind bars. Simon Levy, forty, was handed a Whole Life Order at the Old Bailey after being convicted of two counts of murder, rape, grievous bodily harm with intent, and non-fatal suffocation. Presiding Judge Mark Lucraft KC described Levy as a ruthless monster who exploited vulnerable women for his own personal sexual gratification.
The judicial ruling brings an end to a terrifying campaign of violence against women, but has ignited fierce criticism over a series of glaring law enforcement failures. The court heard that Levy carried out his deadly rampage while on bail, taking advantage of missed opportunities by police and prosecutors to remove him from the streets. Despite being arrested multiple times and failing to attend court hearings, Levy remained free to target vulnerable victims.
Levy’s campaign of terror began in January 2024 when he brutally attacked a woman near Tottenham High Road, breaking her collarbone and strangling her unconscious before raping her. Metropolitan Police officers closed the initial investigation despite the victim identifying where Levy lived, and failed to formally interview her until after he committed a double murder. Two months later, Levy murdered fifty-three-year-old Carmenza Valencia Trujillo, leaving her body on the stairwell of a derelict building in Peckham.
Although police arrested Levy over Carmenza’s murder after finding his blood and DNA at the scene, he was released under investigation. Over the following months, Levy was arrested three times by British Transport Police for sexual assaults on the London Underground, yet was granted bail each time. Just thirteen days before his final murder, the Crown Prosecution Service failed to apply for an arrest warrant when Levy skipped a court appearance, allowing him to stay at large.
On August 24, 2024, Levy struck for the final time, murdering thirty-nine-year-old Sheryl Wilkins in the exact same Tottenham car park where he carried out his January rape. CCTV footage captured Levy walking behind a wall with Wilkins shortly before her body was discovered. Officers eventually utilized live facial recognition technology to track Levy down and charge him, bringing an end to his deadly spree.
During sentencing, emotional victim impact statements from the families of Carmenza and Sheryl detailed the agonizing heartbreak and trauma inflicted by Levy’s actions. Forensic investigations into Levy’s electronic devices revealed a chilling digital document entitled “My sex record,” alongside web searches for notorious predators. The Metropolitan Police have since faced intense scrutiny over their handling of the case and have urged any additional potential victims to come forward.
