British Businessman’s Death in Pattaya Investigated as Police Reject Wife’s Initial Suicide Account

Thai police are investigating the death of a British businessman found with multiple stab wounds inside a rented luxury home in Pattaya after detectives said evidence at the scene appears inconsistent with an initial claim that he died by suicide.

The victim, identified by Thai authorities as 34-year-old Thomas David, was discovered Thursday morning inside a house in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district. His 21-year-old British wife has been taken into custody as investigators continue gathering evidence. She has not been convicted of any offense, and the allegations against her remain subject to judicial proceedings.

According to Nong Prue police, officers were called to the residence after one of the victim’s business associates became concerned when he could no longer contact him.

A friend who went to check on the property reportedly entered the home and found Thomas lying inside the bathroom before contacting emergency services. Police, forensic officers, medical personnel, and rescue workers subsequently secured the scene and began a detailed examination.

Investigators found the businessman lying inside the shower area of the bathroom.

Police said his body had been placed on a bloodstained sheet with a pillow supporting his head and a towel covering him. Preliminary examinations indicated he had sustained multiple stab wounds, while bloodstains were documented in several rooms throughout the house. Detectives also reported signs of a violent struggle inside the residence.

Forensic investigators said blood trails extended from other areas of the home toward the bathroom.

According to police, those findings raised immediate questions about the circumstances surrounding the death and prompted detectives to treat the case as a suspected homicide rather than a suicide. Officers also recovered a knife from the kitchen sink that they believe had been washed before their arrival. The item has been sent for forensic examination.

Police said the victim’s wife initially told investigators that her husband had taken his own life.

According to investigators, she stated that he had been using medication and cannabis before the incident. However, detectives said the physical evidence collected at the scene—including the location and number of stab wounds, the apparent struggle inside the residence, and other forensic findings—did not support that explanation. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that final conclusions will depend on forensic testing and medical examination results.

Officers also examined the timeline leading up to the discovery.

Investigators allege that several hours elapsed between the estimated time of the fatal injuries and the emergency response. Police are reviewing digital communications, surveillance footage, and witness statements to establish the sequence of events during that period.

Thomas reportedly operated a cannabis-related business in Thailand.

Friends told investigators they became concerned after he stopped responding to calls and messages, prompting one associate to visit the property. Authorities have not suggested that his business activities have been linked to the homicide investigation.

The case has attracted considerable attention in both Thailand and the United Kingdom because of the circumstances surrounding the death and the international background of those involved.

Police continue interviewing witnesses, examining forensic evidence, and reviewing CCTV footage collected from the surrounding neighborhood as they work to reconstruct the final hours before Thomas’s death.

Investigators have indicated that the inquiry remains active and that additional evidence will be presented to prosecutors as laboratory testing is completed.

The British woman remains under investigation while authorities continue preparing the case. Any criminal responsibility will ultimately be determined through the Thai judicial process after all evidence has been examined in court.
