15-Year-Old Charged With Covering Up Sheffield Newborn Ki@lling as Four Adults Face Mu@rder Counts
A 15-year-old girl has been charged with perverting the course of justice after a newborn known only as Baby S was found dead at a house in Wincobank, Sheffield. The charge against the teenager, who cannot be named because of her age, has drawn particular public attention because it sits beside murder allegations against four adults from the same household circle.
On 2 September 2026, prosecutors charged Andrea Skopova, 20; Peter Horvath Jr, 19; Peter Horvath Sr, 38; and Nina Horvathova, 37, with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant. All four are Slovakian nationals. Skopova, formerly of Robey Street, is identified in court as the baby’s mother. Horvath Jr, of Holywell Heights, is described as her boyfriend and is not believed to be the child’s father. The father has not been identified. Horvath Sr and Horvathova, also of Holywell Heights, are the younger man’s parents.
Police were alerted in the early hours of Sunday 30 August after hospital staff raised concern for an infant. Skopova had given birth at about 37 weeks at the Holywell Heights address and later attended hospital. Officers first checked another address linked to her. The newborn was not there. At Holywell Heights they found the baby in an outhouse, wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag on top of a washing machine.
A forensic post-mortem concluded that death resulted from stab wounds. Court hearings have been told the infant suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings and that a doctor assessed she had been alive when the attack occurred. Injuries were described as affecting the face and torso, front and back. Prosecutors have alleged the attack took place in a bathroom and that the scene was later cleaned. A potential weapon was recovered. An eight-year-old child was also in the house at the time.
Seven people aged between 15 and 37 were initially arrested on suspicion of murder. Two women, aged 26 and 37, remain on bail. The five charged defendants appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on 2 September and at Sheffield Crown Court the following day. All were remanded in custody. The teenager was placed in youth custody. Interpreters were required. Family members filled the public gallery. A trial has been listed for 12 April 2027 and is expected to last six to seven weeks. The next hearing is set for 2 October.
The separate charge against the 15-year-old is limited to perverting the course of justice. That is an allegation that she took part in concealing what happened after the baby died, not that she inflicted the fatal injuries. Preliminary hearings have not publicly set out a full narrative of her alleged acts. What is known is that she appeared in the same proceedings as the adults, required an interpreter, and was refused bail.
The case remains active. Charges are allegations. The adults deny nothing yet in the sense that the trial has not begun; the law treats them as unconvicted. South Yorkshire Police have described the investigation as complex and asked the public not to speculate in ways that could prejudice a fair trial. Floral tributes have been left near the cordon on Holywell Heights.
What unsettles many observers is the combination of facts already on the record: a baby hours old, multiple stab wounds, an alleged cleanup, four adults from one family group facing murder counts, and a child of 15 facing a concealment charge. Those facts will be tested in court next year. Until then, the public record is limited to what prosecutors have put before magistrates and the Crown Court.
