Despite his tiny size, Leo fought bravely for 13 days in the neonatal intensive care unit. He faced numerous challenges, including collapsed lungs, brain bleeds, a hole in his heart, blood transfusions, and complications from medical procedures that doctors believed contributed to air pockets around his lungs. Tragically, Leo passed away on April 7, 2025, with his father holding him for the first and final time.
The family honored Leo with a touching funeral service in May, where Zack delivered an emotional speech celebrating his son’s short but impactful life. They also launched a charity fitness challenge called “13 Days Fighting” in his memory to support other families experiencing similar losses. Throughout the grieving process, the couple remained open about their pain while emphasizing Leo’s strength and the love he brought into their lives.
In the months that followed, Zack and Samantha courageously decided to try for another child, driven by their desire to give Ivy a sibling and to fill the void left behind.
