An Indiana mom who gave birth to twin boys in September 2023 got the shock of her life when a routine pregnancy test 11 months later came back positive… with TRIPLETS. Now Ellen and James Whitaker, both 32, are proudly raising five children all under the age of two — and the internet can’t get enough of their wild, beautiful chaos.
“It still doesn’t feel real,” Ellen told The Post from the family’s Fort Wayne home, surrounded by five bouncers, three high chairs, and a mountain of diapers. “We went from zero kids to two, then blinked and suddenly we’re outnumbered five-to-two. People keep asking how we do it. Honestly? Coffee, prayers, and a very color-coded Google calendar.”
The whirlwind began in 2022 when the high-school sweethearts decided they were finally ready to start a family after years of focusing on careers — Ellen as a pediatric nurse, James as a project manager for a construction firm.

“We thought we’d have one, maybe two kids total,” James laughed. “God clearly had a different PowerPoint presentation.”
In September 2023, Ellen delivered identical twin boys, Hudson and Harrison, via planned C-section at 37 weeks. The couple spent the next year adjusting to sleepless nights, double feedings, and the constant juggling act of twin parenthood.
Then, in October 2024, Ellen started feeling “off.” Exhaustion she chalked up to twin-mom life, nausea she blamed on a stomach bug. When her period was late, she took a test “just to rule it out.”
Two lines appeared instantly.
“I screamed so loud I woke the twins,” Ellen recalled. “James thought something was wrong until I shoved the stick in his face. He literally went pale and had to sit down on the bathroom floor.”
At their eight-week ultrasound in November 2024, the technician went quiet, moved the wand, then turned the screen toward them with a grin: three tiny heartbeats flickering side by side.
“I’m pretty sure James stopped breathing for a solid ten seconds,” Ellen said. “The tech asked if we were okay and he just whispered, ‘There’s… three?’ I started laughing and crying at the same time. The poor woman probably thought we were insane.”
The pregnancy was labeled high-risk immediately. Ellen was put on modified bed rest at 20 weeks and delivered the triplets — two girls and another boy — via C-section on June 12, 2025, at exactly 34 weeks. Everly, Quinn, and Theo joined the family, each weighing between 4 and 5 pounds.
All five babies are now home and healthy. The couple’s living room looks like a small daycare exploded: five cribs line the walls, a triple stroller that resembles a monster truck sits by the door, and a chalkboard on the fridge tracks who ate when because “if we don’t write it down, we’ll never remember.”
Sleep? A distant memory.
“The twins wake up around 6 a.m. ready to party,” James said. “The triplets are still on a three-hour feeding schedule around the clock. Some nights we high-five in the hallway at 3 a.m. like we’re changing shifts at a factory.”
Family, friends, and even strangers have stepped up in ways the Whitakers never expected. A local church organized a diaper drive that brought in more than 20,000 diapers. Their TikTok account (@WhitakerPartyOf7) blew up overnight after Ellen posted the ultrasound reveal — the video now has 48 million views and counting.
Comments range from “This is my worst nightmare” to “This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
The couple admits the first few months were brutal. Postpartum hormones, five babies crying at once, and the sheer cost — they’re burning through 45 diapers and eight cans of formula a day — nearly broke them.
But something shifted around the four-month mark.
“We hit this weird, perfect rhythm,” Ellen said, watching Hudson gently pat Theo’s head while Everly held Quinn’s tiny hand in her bouncer. “Yeah, it’s loud and messy and we haven’t had a date night in forever, but look at them. We got five perfect little humans in under two years. How do you even complain about that?”
James, who admits he “ugly-cried” the first time all five napped at the same time, just shrugs when people call them superheroes.
“We’re not superheroes,” he said. “We’re just two people who accidentally ordered the family-size chaos meal and are trying not to send it back.”
The Whitakers say they’re officially “one and done” — James booked his vasectomy the day they brought the triplets home — but they wouldn’t change a thing.
“People keep saying ‘Better you than me,’” Ellen laughed. “And I get it. But also… we won the lottery five times in a row. We’re exhausted, broke, and haven’t slept since 2023, but look at this crew. They’re our whole world.”
As if on cue, all five babies started fussing at once. Ellen and James just looked at each other, grinned, and dove back into the beautiful madness.
Welcome to the new normal — population: seven.
