Alyssa Farah Griffin says she ‘got threats from the right and the left’ for working at White House: ‘That is the job’

The former White House staffer said she still receives “people on the left attacking me that I ever worked there.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin is speaking candidly about the “threats” that she’s received as a result of working for Donald Trump during his first presidential term.

The View cohost — who served in a series of White House roles from 2017 until 2020 — brought up the attacks that she’s personally faced as part of a larger discussion about Joe Biden’s physician Kevin O’Connor pleading the Fifth in a House Oversight Committee interview to any questions about the former president, citing physician patient privilege.

“I also want to say, I also got threats from the right and the left,” Griffin said. “I also had people saying I was being disloyal for going in because I was talking about Trump. I had people on the left attacking me that I ever worked there. That is the job you sign up for when you get to work in the highest office in the land.”

Her other cohosts, however, didn’t share that same viewpoint. “That’s why I don’t get asked to do that,” Sara Haines declared, “because I would sit there and be fussy about the fact that they were even asking.”

Griffin worked as Press Secretary to former Vice President Mike Pence and as a special assistant to Donald Trump from 2017 until 2019. She went on to serve as Press Secretary of the Department of Defense and, later, White House Director of Strategic Communications before eventually resigning in 2020.

Earlier in the segment, the Republican panelist explained that she “wasn’t surprised” that O’Connor chose to plead the Fifth in his testimony, adding, “There’s HIPAA reasons, there’s health reasons he’s not going to talk about that are doctor patient confidentiality.”

Still, she criticized his decision to skip several questions about Biden that were related to the presidency, noting that choosing to not answer the queries just made people even more curious.

“As a former government official, I have testified before Congress voluntarily and the Justice Department — there was never a moment that I thought about pleading the Fifth because the taxpayers paid my salary,” she said. “If they wanted an answer to a question about what I saw in government, I felt it was my duty [to answer them].”

Griffin acknowledged that everyone is living through a very “polarized and frictious [sic] moment” in U.S. politics.

“I have no doubt that there’s a partisan bent to this committee,” she said, “but if you believe in institutions, and if you think that this country is bigger than the three-and-a-half years that we’re living in, then you should show up, you should comply if it’s under subpoena, you should do it voluntarily if not, and you should answer questions because the taxpayer paid your salary.”

She continued, “Joe Biden did not pay his salary. And they have a right to know the answer to basic questions like ‘Did any unelected official or family member execute the duties of the president?’ That’s a really easy question to answer.”
