Netflix’s new sitcom Leanne, starring comedian Leanne Morgan and co‑created with Chuck Lorre, debuted its first 16‑episode season on July 31, 2025, with the entire season dropping globally. However, for those of you wondering when a second season will be released, unfortunately, it hasn’t been renewed for Season 2 yet.

Starring Morgan as a sitcom matriarch, the series is a show full of laughter, disguised as a coping mechanism. While a second season’s yet to be announced, Morgan already knows what she’ll be doing if it is renewed: make out more with her husband, Chuck Morgan. In a recent interview with Glamour, the actress hilariously explained:

I didn’t know how to kiss Tim Daly. I kissed his bottom teeth by accident! And it was because I don’t make out enough with Chuck Morgan. We’ve been married for a hundred years. So I need to make out with Chuck Morgan more.

Well, while the actress hopes there will be another season, her co-star Hannah Pilkes remarked to What’s on Netflix that she has her fingers and toes crossed that Netflix renews the show.

What is Leanne Morgan’s Leanne About?

Netflix’s Leanne is a sitcom co-created by The Big Bang Theory’s famed Chuck Lorre and Mom’s Susan McMartin. Starring comedian and actress Leanne Morgan as the lead and as a fictionalized version of herself, the show is about a woman, now a grandmother and in menopause, who is forced to start over when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman

Now forced to carry on with her life while at the same time starting all over again, thankfully, she has her family and friends to help her get through it. But life is not without challenges as she enters the dating game again after three decades of being married, bringing about a vulnerability, as Morgan remarked.

There’s the vulnerability of opening yourself up after being abandoned by the person you built your life with. It’s not just about meeting someone new. It’s about risking the pain of being hurt again.

But that isn’t the only thing, as the fears are deeper and more complex with menopause, worrying about hot flashes at the worst possible times, feeling insecure about your body, and navigating the idea of intimacy in your late 50s. Thus, the show is more than just a sitcom, for at its core, it is about facing your fears and rediscovering yourself.

Leanne Morgan Nearly Cried Filming Leanne

Leanne is a far cry from what Leanne Morgan is used to, and moreover, the show features her as a divorcee, something she isn’t in real life. As the actress revealed to Glamour, the show’s format also added to her woes.

Used to performing solo in front of a live audience, something she is pretty comfortable with, filming the Netflix show involved performing scripted television with other cast members in front of a live studio audience.

There was a lot of tears at first. I was very overwhelmed, and I thought, Can I do this? I had to be my inner cheerleader and go, Yeah, you can do it—Netflix believes in you, Chuck Lorre believes in you. But it was a big learning curve. It’s different than stand-up. For the first three weeks I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, pack up your stuff. Maybe I’ve made a mistake. I don’t even know what I’m doing.’

Well, she performed pretty well thanks to the cast and crew supporting her and helping her get through it. Also starring Kristen Johnston, Celia Weston, Blake Clarke, Ryan Stiles, and more, the show offers clean yet sharp observational humor with universal themes.
