Whoopi Goldberg calls out The View writers over awkward talk show segue: ‘Who wrote this?’

Goldberg was tasked with introducing Tom Bergeron via an introduction that also referenced Mark Cuban — whom she recently criticized over his political advice.

Whoopi Goldberg had a playfully sharp-toothed response to The View writers who tasked her with reading an interview introduction that referenced Shark Tank stars Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran — both of whom Goldberg has, in the past, been involved in notable issues with.

One day after the EGOT-winning Ghost and Sister Act star criticized Cuban for complaining about Democratic strategies for resisting Donald Trump’s presidential administration, Goldberg temporarily paused The View‘s Wednesday morning edition to call out the talk show’s writers over a segue into a chat with Tom Bergeron.

“So much going on on the stage!” Goldberg explained as the show came back from a commercial break, with her eyes darting around at entities that weren’t visible to the audience at home.

She continued, reading her interview segue as normal.

“My friend Tom Bergeron is back on TV and raising the stakes of reality competition shows with his brand new special Dancing With Sharks,” Goldberg said, before her face grew visibly confused over what she was meant to read next.

I don’t mean Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran,” Goldberg said slowly, before she turned to look off stage to ask, “Who wrote this?”

The audience laughed before Goldberg finished.

“I’m talking about real sharks. So, please welcome what’s left of Tom Bergeron!” she said, and the interview carried on as planned.

On Tuesday, Goldberg criticized Cuban and Barack Obama’s recent assessments about left-leaning politics. In a virtual speech, Cuban said that simply taking offense to everything Trump does is “not the way to win” strategic contests amid the current political landscape.

“[Cuban is] saying our messaging is bad, and I’m saying no, our messaging has not been bad, because people have been out,” Goldberg told the audience in response.

Though the Shark Tanks hosts — including Corcoran and Cuban — have visited The View in recent years, prior to that, Corcoran previously made headlines after she body-shamed Goldberg on the talk show after Goldberg jokingly asked if a pair of jeans under discussion would fit her “COVID [butt].”

“And when you get finished with those jeans and decide you don’t like them, give them to me, I’m going to make two pairs,” Corcoran said the 2021 episode.

“I just came back from The View and saw my old friend Whoopi. As you know, she has a phenomenal sense of humor,” Corcoran said in a follow-up apology video. “I made a joke at Whoopi’s expense, which I now realize wasn’t funny. For anyone who I may have offended unintentionally, I just wanted to say, I really am very sorry.”
