Three members of the Michigan family featured in TLC’s reality show “Meet the Putmans” were killed in a tragic car accident on Friday night.
Family patriarch Bill “Papa” Putman, his wife, Barb — who goes by “Neenee” — and their daughter-in-law Megan died when a semi-truck ran through a stop sign and collided with their jeep at a rural intersection near Cass City – located north of Detroit, according to the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office.
“I come to you with a heavy heart asking for your prayers,” the family said in a statement. “Our family was in a tragic car accident and we lost Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan. They have gone home to be with the Lord.”
Megan Putnam’s husband Blake, and their three children, Lulu, Alena, and Noah and niece Gia remain hospitalized after the crash.
“Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia in your prayers as they remain in the hospital, we are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them,” the statement wrote.
Police said Bill, Barb and Megan were pronounced dead on the scene, while the five other family members “were transported to respective hospitals by helicopter and MMR, some in critical condition.”
The semi-truck driver and his female passenger were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The family reiterated that “all proclaim that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. He is our hope, our peace, and our salvation. Even in this time of heartbreak, we rest in knowing that God is in control.”
“Thank you for every prayer, message, and act of love,” the statement added. “Your support means more than words can express. Please continue to lift us up, that our hearts remain fixed on the truth that Jesus conquered death so we could have eternal life.”
Barb Putman praised her “incredible husband” in an emotional post celebrating his birthday three days before the crash.
“You, Bill, are my best friend and I am so grateful for you. You bring joy and laughter into my life. I am who I am because of you,” Barb said on Instagram. “You are an amazing husband, an awesome dad, an inspirational papa and a faithful friend.”
The Michigan-based family starred in “Meet the Putnam’s”, which ran on TLC for one season in 2017.
The show didn’t get picked up for another season on the cable channel, but the family rebooted the series on YouTube in 2021 as “Growing Up Putman.”
Both shows followed the Putmans, a family where three generations lived inside the same 35,000 square foot house.
In 2017, twenty-five people lived in the house, including “four grown adults” who resided with their parents, “wives and children” and contributed to “one bank account.”
The family’s Instagram bio claimed that there were 10 adults and 20 kids of the Putnam clan all “living together” as of 2025.
