GREELEY, COLORADO – In a scandal that has left a quiet Colorado community reeling, 34-year-old Brenda Meza – once a trusted middle school secretary, cross-country coach, and games club advisor at Franklin Middle School – is now a fugitive from justice, wanted on a barrage of felony charges after allegedly admitting to her husband that she had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old eighth-grader in the backseat of her car.

The bombshell confession reportedly came straight from Meza’s own lips to her husband, who – disgusted and horrified – turned her in to authorities, sparking a full-scale investigation that has now escalated into a statewide manhunt. Greeley Police say Meza engaged in months of continuous sexual abuse of the vulnerable teen, grooming him with alcohol, marijuana, lewd texts, and secret meetups that culminated in multiple acts of intercourse – all while she held a position of authority at his school.

The nightmare began unraveling on February 12, when police responded to a home in the 2000 block of 6th Avenue following reports of inappropriate conduct between a District 6 staff member and a 13-year-old student. That tip led straight to Meza, who was immediately placed on administrative leave and later terminated from her job on February 25. During initial questioning, she allegedly spilled the shocking details herself – confessing to investigators how the predatory relationship escalated from grooming to full-blown sexual encounters.

According to chilling details in the arrest affidavit, the abuse started after Meza met the boy through her role at Franklin Middle School, where the eighth-grader had been a student for two years. She allegedly supplied him with booze and weed, exchanged explicit messages, and arranged clandestine rendezvous at places like a local park and a Walmart parking lot. The first alleged act of intercourse happened in January inside the backseat of her car in that Walmart lot – a public spot turned private hell. Just weeks later, another marijuana-fueled encounter unfolded in the same backseat at Ramseier Park, with Meza dropping the boy home around 9 p.m. as if nothing had happened.

Brenda Meza, 34, a Greeley middle school secretary, is wanted on felony charges involving a 13-year-old:

Even more disturbing: the teen reportedly told detectives that during one of their encounters, Meza made a humiliating comparison, bragging that his “manhood was bigger than her husband’s” and claiming she felt like she had known him in another life. Photos recovered from her phone allegedly show the pair together in the car – the boy holding BuzzBallz cocktails and marijuana blunts, smiling in what should have been innocent after-school moments.

The husband’s role in exposing the horror cannot be overstated. After Meza allegedly confessed to him about getting “high” and having “inappropriate interactions” with the student – perhaps in a moment of guilt or panic – he contacted police. During a traffic stop on March 11, her husband told officers he had no idea where she was and was heading toward the Mexican border, fueling fears she had fled the country to escape prosecution.

Greeley Police have issued an arrest warrant charging Meza with 12 felonies, including sexual assault of a child, internet luring of a child, tampering with physical evidence, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Attempts to locate her have failed – she vanished after the allegations surfaced, leaving behind a trail of betrayal that has shattered trust in the education system.

Franklin Middle School, part of Greeley-Evans School District 6 about an hour north of Denver, has been rocked to its core. Parents are furious, demanding answers about how a staffer in such close contact with kids could allegedly carry on this abuse undetected for months. The victim, now protected under anonymity laws, has bravely spoken to detectives about the encounters – three confirmed instances of intercourse alone – painting a picture of manipulation and exploitation by someone who was supposed to protect him.

Meza, also known as Brenda Raya, was hired in February 2020 as a school secretary. Colleagues described her as outgoing and involved – coaching cross-country, advising clubs – making the allegations even more gut-wrenching. School officials acted swiftly once tipped off, but the damage was already done.

Police are urging anyone with information on Meza’s whereabouts to come forward immediately. Tips can go to Detective Austin Burckley or Officer Zach Eberhard, or call 911. Authorities believe she may have fled the state – or even the country – to avoid facing the music for what they call a clear case of predatory behavior.

The community is left asking the impossible questions: How could this happen under the noses of educators and parents? Why did it take so long for the red flags to be noticed? And where is Brenda Meza now – hiding in shadows, perhaps plotting her next move?

For the 13-year-old victim and his family, the scars will last a lifetime. For the husband who did the right thing by reporting his own wife, the pain of betrayal runs deep. And for Greeley, this is a stark reminder that monsters can hide in plain sight – even in the halls of a middle school.

As the hunt intensifies, one thing is clear: Brenda Meza is no longer a respected educator. She’s a wanted woman, accused of shattering a child’s innocence in the backseat of her car – and the law is closing in.
