Karyna Shuliak arrived in the United States from Minsk, Belarus, in 2009 at age 20, the same year Jeffrey Epstein completed his controversial jail sentence in Florida. What began as an apparent job-seeking email—”Hi, my name is Karina. I’m from Kamengrad, 180 cm tall, and I’m ready to work”—quickly evolved into one of the most enduring and enigmatic relationships in Epstein’s life. Epstein’s reply was characteristically blunt: “Great body, face. Okay.” By 2012, the connection had turned romantic, with hundreds of preserved emails revealing intense affection, financial dependence, and operational entanglement that persisted until his death in 2019.

Early correspondence shows Shuliak navigating Epstein’s world cautiously. In April 2011, she attempted to withdraw, writing: “I am sorry for taking your time… I simply cannot accept your help due to some views… This is my choice.” Epstein forwarded the message with the note: “I guess she read the press,” alluding to media coverage of his 2008 conviction. Yet by October 2011, her tone shifted dramatically: “Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. And you’ll start to do those terrible things to women again. :)” The casual acknowledgment of his crimes, paired with laughter, hints at early awareness that did not deter her involvement.

The relationship deepened in 2012. Shuliak’s messages overflow with declarations: “I love you. You are the purest man of all men… You will always have me, no matter what, as long as it makes you happy.” She complained of “not enough kisses, not enough time, not enough sex.” Epstein, in turn, funded her education, forwarding dental school materials and covering costs. By 2015, she enrolled at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine, later referring to herself as “Dr. Karina Shuliak.” She established a dental practice licensed in Florida, California, and the US Virgin Islands—conveniently near Epstein’s Little St. James island—where she performed cleanings for his associates, potentially explaining certain photographs in seized files.

Shuliak’s role extended far beyond romance. From 2016 onward, she coordinated Epstein’s operations on a salaried basis, scheduling meetings, travel, and communications between pilots, lawyers, and staff. Nicknamed “the inspector,” she monitored his emails, texts, and calls, gaining intimate access to his network. Financial ties reinforced the bond: Epstein wired substantial sums to her parents—$10,000 in 2013, $250,000 in 2015, $300,000 in 2016—and funded medical treatments for her mother. These transfers created clear dependency.

Personal dynamics were volatile. In 2013, Shuliak married Jennifer Carlin, another figure in Epstein’s circle, in what appeared to be a marriage of convenience to aid her immigration status as a non-citizen. The union dissolved in 2019 after Epstein’s arrest. Emails reveal jealousy and physical altercations; one 2017 message from Epstein referenced her slapping him “the fifth or sixth time,” with him responding: “I love you… I just need some time to let it go… It will be okay.”

As scrutiny intensified, Shuliak played a key role in Epstein’s final maneuvers. In late 2018 and early 2019, amid the Miami Herald’s investigative series, she coordinated property purchases in Marrakesh, Morocco—a location lacking a straightforward extradition treaty with the United States. Emails show discussions with real estate agent Alex Pato, London broker Mark Kensington, and others. Epstein’s jet made a nine-hour round trip from Paris to Rabat in April 2019, and contracts advanced rapidly. The timing—weeks before his July 6, 2019 arrest—suggests strategic planning for potential escape or asset protection.

Epstein’s death in federal custody on August 10, 2019, triggered the execution of his “1953 Trust,” a 32-page document signed days earlier. Shuliak received approximately $100 million, including a $50 million annuity, real estate holdings (Little St. James, New Mexico ranch, Paris apartment, Palm Beach and New York properties), and a handwritten note for a 32.73-karat diamond ring “given in contemplation of marriage.” Other major beneficiaries included lawyer Darren Indyke ($50 million), accountant Richard Kahn ($25 million), brother Mark Epstein ($10 million), and Ghislaine Maxwell ($10 million). The estate, valued at $577–600 million at death, has since diminished significantly due to victim settlements, taxes, and fees, with distributions pending resolution of claims.

Despite this windfall and documented closeness, Shuliak has faced no charges, indictments, subpoenas, or compelled testimony in federal Epstein-related prosecutions. She has issued no public statements, granted no interviews, and largely vanished from view. Properties tied to Epstein have been sold to satisfy settlements, including the private island now under new ownership.

The absence of scrutiny raises profound questions. Shuliak’s knowledge of Epstein’s activities appears extensive—through emails, operational oversight, and personal interactions.
