Erling Haaland reveals “embarrassing” details of relationship with girlfriend Isabel Haugseng Johansen

Speaking during a new interview this week, Erling Haaland has offered personal and private insight into his relationship with his girlfriend.

Away from the pitch, Haaland has often kept his personal life relatively quiet compared to the constant spotlight on his footballing career. Since his move to City in 2022, the Norwegian superstar has smashed goal-scoring records, but rarely lifts the curtain on his life beyond.

However, with his status growing season by season, fans have increasingly been curious about the striker’s world away from football.

This isn’t the first time the 25-year-old has made headlines for reasons outside of football. Earlier this year, global music icon Drake shared a selfie of Haaland from one of his Manchester gigs, with attention now shifting back to the personal side of the forward’s life following a recent interview.

As one of the biggest stars in world football, Haaland’s life has often been portrayed as relentless training, goalscoring, and trophies. But the Norwegian has now reminded fans that he has a softer, more grounded side, offering surprising details about his downtime with his long-term partner Isabel Haugseng Johansen.

Speaking during a new feature with Norwegian media outlet NRK this week, Erling Haaland has offered personal insight into his relationship with his girlfriend whilst also offering relationship advice to single men across the world.

“She sent me a message. She played in the same club as me, Bryne. She was the one who checked me out. I wasn’t the one who checked her out,” Haaland playfully responded when asked about how the pair met.

Quizzed on what a ‘romantic evening’ together looks like for Haaland and Johansen, the Manchester City striker said, “I cook. This will probably sound a bit embarrassing to her, but she likes to play [games]. So we play Minecraft together. We build houses and all that.”

But how about advice for single men? Haaland said, “I was single for quite a while myself. If I have any advice? It’s to get out and socialise. Meet people and get to know people.

“From my experience, you find your girlfriend when you least expect it. If you’re always looking for a girlfriend, you’ll never find one.”

The revelation will only strengthen Haaland’s image among supporters as one of the more relatable modern-day footballers. Despite his world-class talent and comparisons to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the striker clearly values a sense of normality away from the spotlight.

Looking forward, City boss Pep Guardiola recently suggested there are only two or three strikers in the world that can be compared to Haaland, while Thierry Henry claimed he will only get “freakier” as he develops.

As Haaland balances his record-breaking career with private moments alongside Johansen, City supporters will hope the combination helps keep their number nine settled in Manchester for years to come.
