Like his mother Queen Elizabeth before him, King Charles has apparently made it clear to Prince Harry that the Duke of Sussex cannot be a half-in, half-out royal, according to a new report from The Telegraph.
The outlet reported that the King has apparently made it “absolutely clear” that Harry can’t balance official royal duties with commercial ventures, which a source said is in line with “upholding his late mother’s decision.”

This news comes less than two weeks after an apparently successful meeting between father and son in London on September 10, a tea that lasted just under an hour and seemed to mend fences between the two. The Telegraph reported that Charles and Harry “may meet privately on an occasional basis”—a huge step in the right direction for their relationship. Harry is also said to want to make more public appearances in the U.K., after a four-day trip earlier this month to his home country during which he met with his father, one that resembled Harry’s work as a member of the royal family.

“High-level” talks are also reportedly underway between aides for Charles and Harry to appear together for a “public show of unity,” and that Buckingham Palace staff and Sussex staff are “tentatively discussing” for the two men to meet up “more frequently over the next year, with a view to them finally appearing jointly at a public event”—possibly when Harry’s Invictus Games return to the U.K., Birmingham specifically, in 2027.

Harry could return to the U.K. up to “four or five times” a year, and that, like two weeks ago, his visits didn’t “need to be as part of the ‘working’ royal family.”
“Harry’s visit to the U.K. was not about trying to show up or compete with his brother [Prince William]—in fact, the opposite,” a source told The Daily Mail. “It was to remind William that Harry can be there to take some of the load off.”
