On the last day of the 2025 summer transfer window, Marc Guehi seemed to land at Liverpool along with Alexander Isak, but only 1 of the 2 people enjoyed the joy.

Alexander Isak received an ‘unlucky’ shirt number at Liverpool
Isak joined Anfield for a record fee of £125 million, and Guehi was called back to London by Crystal Palace because he could not find a replacement.
The deal fell apart at the last minute, Guehi was very disappointed but he was praised for keeping a calm and professional attitude. Since then, the 25-year-old central defender has been training and playing without missing a single game at both Crystal Palace and the England team.

But Guehi has vowed not to compromise anything with Crystal Palace regarding his future. The centre-back decided to leave Selhurst Park in January or next summer. However, the England international is no longer interested in Liverpool.
According to SunSport, Guehi has told his agent and advisor that he wants to move to Real Madrid. This is a decision that hits Liverpool hard because they still see Guehi as the ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who refused to extend his contract and decided to leave Anfield at the end of this season.
The advantage in the race for Guehi now belongs to Real Madrid. The reason is that foreign clubs are free to negotiate with Guehi in January 2026 if the centre-back refuses to renew his contract.
Los Blancos cannot ignore this bargain because in recent years, they have often recruited stars who are still at their peak but are about to expire their contracts.
In particular, Real Madrid can sign Guehi as a domestic player (Spanish citizen). Because, Guehi has an Ivory Coast passport (issued through his father) which is governed by the Cotonou Agreement.
The agreement allows players with African nationality to be considered Spanish citizens.
