Catherine, Princess of Wales, made an unannounced and deeply personal visit to the Ever After Garden in Chelsea on Saturday evening, dedicating a white rose with a handwritten note in memory of cancer victims as she continues her recovery journey following remission.

The illuminated installation at Duke of York Square features over 30,000 glowing white roses, each dedicated by donors in remembrance of loved ones lost to cancer. Proceeds support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the organization linked to the hospital where the Princess received her treatment after her diagnosis in early 2024.
In a video shared on social media, the Princess is seen walking through the serene display, speaking warmly with volunteers, and placing her own rose among the thousands. Her note, signed simply “C,” read: “In loving memory of all those who have lost their lives to cancer.”
Kensington Palace captioned the post: “Thank you to all those who have contributed to the Ever After Garden, which raises vital funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Supporters can dedicate a rose in memory of someone who lost their life to cancer. Every flower, every light, is a memory held together, an illumination of shared love, remembrance, and hope.”
The garden, open to the public until December 16, has raised £1.6 million since its inception in 2019, with this year’s contributions adding significantly to efforts advancing cancer research and patient care.

The Royal Marsden holds special significance for the Princess and Prince William, who became joint patrons of the associated NHS Foundation Trust earlier this year. The Princess announced she was in remission in January 2025 during a previous visit to the hospital, expressing relief while emphasizing ongoing focus on recovery.
This latest appearance underscores her gradual return to public engagements, blending personal reflection with advocacy for causes close to her heart. The Ever After Garden, created in collaboration with designer Anya Hindmarch and writer Camilla Morton, provides a space for quiet contemplation amid the holiday season – a time when grief can feel particularly acute for many.

Volunteers described the Princess’s visit as moving, noting her genuine interest in their work and the stories behind the dedications. One organizer shared: “The garden is an incredibly special place for so many, and we were so glad to share it with The Princess.”
Public reaction has been overwhelmingly supportive, with fans praising her quiet strength and empathy. Social media filled with messages of admiration, many highlighting how her actions offer hope to others facing similar challenges.
The Princess’s cancer journey, shared publicly to raise awareness, has resonated widely. Her preventative chemotherapy concluded in autumn 2024, and she has since spoken of adjusting to a “new normal” while prioritizing health and family.
This visit aligns with broader royal support for cancer initiatives, coming shortly after King Charles shared updates on his own treatment.
The Ever After Garden remains a beacon of remembrance, inviting visitors to contribute and reflect. For the Princess, it represents both personal gratitude and collective solidarity.
As the installation glows through the winter nights, her dedication stands as a poignant reminder of lives touched by cancer – and the enduring power of hope.
