This Morning viewers spat out their tea in shock Wednesday when beloved host Cat Deeley accidentally chipped her tooth live on air, all while chomping into a Bonfire Night toffee apple that the chef had literally just promised was “perfectly safe for your teeth.”
The 49-year-old presenter was mid-segment with co-host Ben Shephard, 50, and luxury chef Elliott Grover from Mayfair’s Cut at 45 Park Lane when disaster struck. The trio were sampling sticky, glossy toffee apples made for Guy Fawkes Night celebrations on November 5.

“These are not going to damage your teeth,” Grover confidently declared moments before handing Deeley the gleaming red treat.
Big mistake.
Deeley took one enthusiastic bite, CRUNCH, then froze. Her eyes widened, hand flew to her mouth, and she let out a muffled “Oh no!”
“I’ve just chipped my tooth!” she squealed, half-laughing, half-wincing as she spat a tiny shard into her palm.
The studio exploded. Shephard collapsed forward, howling with laughter, slapping the counter like a man possessed. Crew members off-camera could be heard cackling as Deeley waved the broken tooth fragment at the lens.
“I literally just said it wouldn’t damage your teeth!” Grover gasped, red-faced, throwing his hands up in surrender.
Still clutching her jaw, Deeley soldiered on like a pro: “It’s only a little bit… but yeah, that’s definitely a piece of me!”
Viewers flooded X within seconds:
“Cat Deeley just sacrificed a tooth for our entertainment. Legend.” “Ben Shephard laughing so hard he’s crying is the best 30 seconds of TV this year.” “Chef said ‘won’t damage teeth’ – tooth immediately files for divorce.”
The So You Think You Can Dance star later reassured fans on Instagram Stories: “Yes, I really did chip my tooth live on air! Heading to the dentist now… worth it for the laughs (and the toffee).”
Producers quickly cut to a break as makeup rushed in with ice packs, but not before Shephard wheezed: “Welcome to live television!”
Dentists across Britain reportedly saw a 300% spike in emergency bookings from viewers suddenly paranoid about their own Bonfire Night treats.
ITV confirmed Deeley was “absolutely fine” and finished the show with a slightly lispy but unstoppable grin.
Moral of the story? Never trust a chef holding a toffee apple and a promise.
