A little over a month ago, iconic rocker Brad Arnold was telling fans how thankful he was to still be here to celebrate another Christmas with his family.
Sadly, the Instagram post was to be his last, and it is now flooded with heartbreaking tributes from fans following the 47-year-old’s death.
The 3 Doors Down founder and lead singer, who lost his battle with a rare form of kidney cancer this week, shared the snap on Boxing Day, showing a happy moment with his wife Jennifer and their pet pooch in front of their Christmas tree.
“Merry Christmas everybody. I can’t tell ya how thankful I am to be here!” he captioned the shot.
Though he looked undeniably frail, the moment was a joyful one with many fans wishing the couple well. Now, it takes on a slightly different meaning.
“You are with our beloved creator now. My heart breaks for your beautiful family, friends, loved ones and fans. Soar high Brad. You are dearly missed Sir,” one saddened fan wrote on the photo.
“You will be so missed! We will all see you on the other side brother,” another commented.
And the heartfelt messages continued.
“Rest in peace king.”
“We love you Brad, rock out up there.”
Another fan extended a message to the family, hoping they would be able to find peace in knowing how adored the singer was.
“Thank you for the amazing music through the years. I was hoping to get to see you guys live one day. May you be at the truest peace that exists within the fabric of our universe. And to any of his family and friends reading — may your hearts be led to whatever comfort and solace can come at such a time. Be blessed, now and eternally.”
Arnold had been battling clear cell renal carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer, since last May.
The disease had metastasised to his lungs and was at a stage 4 diagnosis when he first shared the news with his fans.
In an emotional video addressing his health last year, the Grammy-nominated rocker bravely admitted to being at peace with his fatal diagnosis.
“I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all,” he said at the time.
Born in Mississippi, Arnold was a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer for 3 Doors Down, which soared to fame after their hit debut single “Kryptonite” in 2000.
The news of his death was shared via a public statement on his band’s Instagram.
“With heavy hearts, we shared the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47,” it read.
The statement explained Arnold passed away in his sleep, surrounded by loved ones, including wife Jennifer.
“The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and kindly asks that their privacy be respected,” it continued. “He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”
