🚨 SHOCKING TWIST: The ex-husband — a successful surgeon — is now charged with brutally gunning down his ex-wife and her new husband in their family home… while their two tiny kids (ages 1 and 4) slept just feet away! 😱
No forced entry. No gun found. Kids unharmed. But police tracked a suspicious car that arrived right before the shots and vanished after — straight to HIM in Illinois.
What drove a doctor from a seemingly clean divorce years ago to allegedly cross state lines for this horror on Dec 30? Jealousy? Unresolved rage? Or something even darker that investigators aren’t revealing yet?
The motive feels incredibly shaky… and the full story is only starting to unravel. 😤

A Chicago-area vascular surgeon has been charged with two counts of premeditated aggravated murder in the Dec. 30, 2025, shooting deaths of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, Spencer Tepe, 37, inside their home in the Weinland Park neighborhood.
Michael David McKee, 39, was arrested Jan. 10, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois, after a 12-day investigation that began when the couple was discovered dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Their two young children, ages 1 and 4, were found physically unharmed in the home, along with the family dog. No firearm was recovered at the scene, and police reported no signs of forced entry.
McKee, who was married to Monique Tepe from 2015 until their divorce in 2017, waived his right to an extradition hearing in Winnebago County court on Jan. 12 and is expected to be returned to Franklin County, Ohio, to face the charges. Court records initially listed two counts of murder before being updated to premeditated aggravated murder, reflecting the severity of the allegations.
The case has gripped central Ohio since the bodies were discovered. Spencer Tepe, a dentist practicing in Athens, Ohio, failed to appear for work on the morning of Dec. 30. Concerned colleagues requested a wellness check, but an initial police response went to the wrong address. About an hour later, officers entered the correct home on the 1400 block of North Fourth Street and found the grim scene.
Spencer Tepe had been shot multiple times, while Monique Tepe suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Three 9mm shell casings were located, but investigators have not publicly disclosed further details about the weapon.
In the days following the discovery, Columbus police released surveillance footage showing a person of interest in a dark hooded jacket walking in an alley near the Tepe residence between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. — the estimated window of the killings. Detectives used neighborhood video to identify a vehicle that arrived shortly before the homicides and departed soon after. That car was later traced to McKee in Rockford, where evidence linked him to it around the time of the crime.
McKee, a graduate of Ohio State University like both victims, holds active medical licenses in Illinois and California. He previously had a license in Nevada that expired in June 2025. Records show he worked as a surgeon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
The couple had no children together during their marriage. Their divorce decree granted McKee the Virginia home they once shared, while Monique relocated to Ohio. She remarried Spencer Tepe in December 2020, and the pair welcomed two children. Spencer was remembered as a dedicated dentist and family man, while Monique was described by loved ones as a joyful stay-at-home mother with a background in childhood education.
Family members of the victims issued a statement following McKee’s arrest: “Today’s arrest represents an important step toward justice for Monique and Spencer. Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon, but we are grateful to the City of Columbus Police Department, its investigators and the assisting law enforcement community whose tireless efforts helped to capture the person involved. As the case proceeds, we trust the justice system to hold the person responsible fully accountable.”
Neighbors in Weinland Park, a vibrant urban area just north of downtown Columbus, expressed relief at the arrest but also lingering shock. Weinland Park Civic Association President Tanya Long told reporters the Tepes were “a happy family” embraced by the community. “They were the life of the party,” she said. “We want justice served to the fullest extent of the law.”
The investigation drew national attention in its early stages due to the lack of immediate leads and the presence of young children at the scene. Police Chief Elaine Bryant addressed questions about the delayed response, noting the initial error in addressing but emphasizing that officers followed protocol.
As of mid-January 2026, authorities have not publicly released a confirmed motive. Court documents and affidavits focus on the surveillance and vehicle evidence rather than any specific grievance. The 2017 divorce appears amicable on paper, with no spousal support awarded and no shared children.
Speculation has circulated online and in media reports about possible lingering resentment from the failed marriage, but no official statements support jealousy or revenge as factors. Some outlets have described the case as a “shocking twist” from divorce to double homicide, highlighting McKee’s professional success as a surgeon.
The Tepe family held visitation and a celebration of life in Upper Arlington shortly after the arrest, with hundreds attending to honor the couple. Obituaries portrayed Spencer as passionate about dentistry, soccer, golf, and family, while Monique was remembered for her bright smile, caring heart, and love of baking.
McKee appeared calm and showed no emotion during his initial court appearance in Illinois, according to reports. He was represented by a public defender.
The case remains active, with Columbus police continuing to gather evidence. No trial date has been set, and further details may emerge as McKee is extradited and formally arraigned in Franklin County.
