In a raw and emotional revelation, NBC’s beloved Today show meteorologist Dylan Dreyer has shared intimate details about the breakdown of her 12-year marriage to husband Brian Fichera. The couple, who met while working at a Boston news station in the early 2000s, announced their separation in July 2025 after quietly parting ways months earlier. What shocked fans most was Dreyer’s candid admission in November 2025 that their relationship had reached a point where “there was something we couldn’t fix.”
Speaking on Today with Jenna & Friends, Dreyer explained the difficult decision with remarkable grace. “Everybody has their reasons for what leads to a separation or divorce,” she said, noting it was “another story with a lot of wine for another time.” But she emphasized a sense of liberation in accepting the irreparable damage. “Whatever broke in your marriage—you could either fix it if you can, and ideally you would… Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward.” Dreyer revealed that reframing their bond as friendship has allowed her to release lingering resentments. “We are no longer husband and wife, and all those things that were broken—I don’t hold them against you because we’ve accepted they’re broken. That’s why we’re separated. So now let’s move forward as friends… And I can be a better friend than a wife.”
The pair, who tied the knot in 2012, share three young sons: Calvin (8), Oliver (5), and Russell (4). Despite the split, co-parenting remains their top priority. Dreyer described how they maintain a strong family routine, with Fichera often handling school drop-offs and the family gathering for dinner most nights. They even spent vacations together post-separation and planned to celebrate holidays as a unit. When discussing the change with their eldest son, Dreyer asked Calvin what he thought a family was. His response—”a group of people that love each other”—reaffirmed their commitment. “The kids are surrounded by love every single day,” she shared, highlighting that the boys need both parents’ presence.
Dreyer and Fichera’s love story began at WHDH, NBC’s Boston affiliate, where she was a meteorologist and he an in-studio technician. Their romance blossomed into engagement in 2011, and they built a life filled with shared passions like golf. Fans had long admired their seemingly idyllic family, often featured in Dreyer’s social media posts about highs, lows, and everyday joys—including challenges like miscarriages and their youngest son’s premature birth.
Though the exact cause of the “broken” elements remains private, Dreyer’s openness underscores a mature approach to heartbreak. She has leaned on her faith for strength and recently relocated with the boys to the suburbs outside New York City for a fresh start. As 2025 draws to a close, Dreyer appears resilient, focusing on positivity amid change. Her story resonates as a reminder that even picture-perfect unions can face unresolvable challenges, but love—for children and former partners—can endure in new forms.
