From funnyman to family man, Jimmy Kimmel is used to balancing his late-night gig with being dad to his four kids.
The comedian shares two adult children with his first wife, Gina Maddy: daughter Katie, born in 1991, and son Kevin, born in 1993. Since Kimmel’s 2013 wedding to Molly McNearney, he’s welcomed two more children. The couple’s daughter, Jane, arrived in 2014. They welcomed their son, Billy, in 2017, completing their blended family.
In May 2025, Kimmel shared on his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, that he’d become a grandfather as Katie welcomed her first child, daughter Patti Joan. “Katie and her husband Will had a baby girl right at the time we shoot our show last night. So I decided to be there instead of here,” he said of his rare absence from his program the night before. Of course, the comic couldn’t resist throwing a few jokes into his announcement. “Her name is Patti. Like the melt,” he quipped of his first grandchild, “but with an ‘I’, not a ‘Y.’”
Over the years, Kimmel has been open about the difference between raising his oldest two kids in his 20s, before he’d hit it big, and rearing his youngest while helming a late-night empire. “I’d pick Katie up from day care as quickly as I could, because we couldn’t afford the $5 an hour to keep her there longer,” he explained to New York Magazine in 2017, adding later in the interview, “It’s much easier now, even though I’m busier, because we can afford to have a nanny.”
Although he may annoy them with his endless supply of dad jokes, the talk-show host is all about his family. Here’s what to know about Jimmy Kimmel’s four children.
Katie Kimmel
Kimmel and then-wife Maddy welcomed their first child, daughter Katharine “Katie” Kimmel, on August 28, 1991. She was born in Tampa, Florida, where Kimmel hosted a morning radio show. Soon after her arrival, the comedian lost his job and had to relocate to Palm Springs for another opportunity.
A 24-year-old Kimmel felt the pressures of young parenthood as he struggled to make ends meet and be a present dad. “I would work from four in the morning till around 11 in the morning, and at the time my ex-wife worked too,” he recalled to New York Magazine. After picking Katie up from daycare, he said, “I’d have her all day till six or 6:30, when my ex-wife got home. That was a hard schedule. I was exhausted all the time.” He added, “Most of the pressure I felt with Katie came from me being a 25-year-old guy who had to keep the family afloat…It was not easy.”
Like her famous father, Katie was drawn to a creative career path—but chose the visual arts over performance. In 2015, she graduated with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, having focused on ceramics per her website bio. Today, she sells original artwork—as well as apparel and home goods—through her website.
Her ceramic pieces played a part in her September 2021 wedding to Will Logsdon, flanking the altar along with colorful flowers, per a People article from the time. Kimmel had previously revealed news of her nuptials in an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “She actually turned 30 two weeks ago, which is strange to have a 30-year-old daughter,” he said. “And she is getting married this weekend, as a matter of fact, which is a big deal.”
She and Logsdon welcomed their first child, Patti, in May 2025, making Kimmel a grandfather. Kimmel’s wife, McNearney, told People that month about which qualities Patti will have inherited from her mother and grandpa. “[Kimmel] and his daughter together, their very common similarity is how funny they both are, and I think that they kind of approach everything with laughter,” she said. “There’s no moment that’s too serious for them to make a joke in, and I imagine that will be passed down to her child as well.”
Kevin Kimmel
Kimmel and Maddy welcomed their second child, son Kevin, on September 19, 1993. Like his older sister, he arrived before his dad had found his niche in the entertainment industry. (Jimmy Kimmel Live! premiered in 2003.) Kimmel told GQ in 2018 of having kids early in life, “I thought that’s what you did. It didn’t seem unusual to me because my mother was 20 when she had me.”
Kimmel’s eldest son keeps a low profile, although the same GQ article reported that he ran social media for his father’s show as recently as 2018. He’s also attended a few events with his dad over the years, from film festivals to NBA All-Star Games. In 2016, he made a brief and humorous cameo on a Father’s Day episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, pranking the host by throwing a raw turkey at him.
According to his Instagram, Kevin is a musician and member of L.A.-based indie rock group The Tetons.
Jane Kimmel
Kimmel and wife McNearney had their first child together, daughter Jane, on July 10, 2014—one year after their star-studded wedding in Ojai, California, per People.
As expected, Kimmel had jokes ready to go when announcing the happy news of Jane’s arrival on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “We had a little girl, we named her after my grandmother—her name is Grandma Kimmel,” he said. “She weighed 6 lbs., 1 oz. at birth. Twenty inches long, just above the legal limit—sometimes, they make you throw them back.”
The comic opened up about “[r]aising kids with money” in a 2017 New York Magazine interview. “You don’t want to just hand them everything. I don’t know the best way to go about it. I’ve concluded that pretending you don’t have money is not the best way, because kids aren’t stupid,” he said. Later in the interview, he cited the “small advice” as “the best advice,” like having his kids do chores and have a reasonable allowance.
“You know, there’s that urban legend about the kids who have a private jet and the first time they fly commercial they ask their father, ‘Why are all these people on our plane?’ I don’t ever want anything like that to happen,” Kimmel added.
In 2020, a 6-year-old Jane became invested in politics, a development her dad was proud of. “My daughter is 6 years old, and she was watching. We had CNN on for like four days in a row,” Kimmel told Ellen DeGeneres in an appearance on her eponymous talk show. “She’s very interested in what’s going on and she feels like she has a stake in it.”
Outside of her precocious interest in democracy, Jane also has the same interests as many tween girls—like being an Olivia Rodrigo fan. On an October 2023 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host shared a video of himself and his wife surprising their two children by picking up a ‘hitchhiking’ Rodrigo on the way to their school. They proceeded to sing along to “Get Him Back!” with the singer, which surely scored Kimmel major dad points.
Billy Kimmel
Kimmel welcomed his fourth child, son William John “Billy” Kimmel, on April 21, 2017. A few weeks later, he shared on his namesake show that his son had a congenital heart condition—tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia (ToF-PA)—that required him to have heart surgery when he was only 3 days old.
“Basically, the pulmonary valve was completely blocked and he has a hole in the wall between the left and right sides of his heart,” Kimmel explained. Although the new dad was clearly emotional, he lightened the mood with a joke. “Poor kid. Not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face.”
Since then, Billy has successfully undergone two more open-heart surgeries—the last in May 2024, when he was 7 years old. “We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid,” Kimmel shared in an Instagram post at the time.
In April 2025, Kimmel again took to Instagram to share an update on his youngest. “Today is Billy’s 8th birthday. He is very healthy and strong thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai and to those of you who have sent prayers, well wishes and donations through the years,” he wrote, inviting his followers to donate to other children in need of medical care.
