In a heartbreaking twist that has stunned investigators and the public alike, the brutal double murder of an Ohio dentist and his wife has taken an explosive new turn. DNA testing has revealed that one of the couple’s two young children is not biologically related to the husband – but rather the result of the wife’s past affair. Adding fuel to the fire, the prime suspect in the killings is none other than the wife’s ex-husband, a respected vascular surgeon from Illinois.
The victims, 37-year-old dentist Dr. Spencer Tepe and his 39-year-old wife Monique Tepe, were found shot to death in their Columbus home on the morning of December 30, 2025. Police responded to a wellness check and discovered the couple upstairs with multiple gunshot wounds – Spencer suffered several shots, while Monique was hit at least once in the chest. Miraculously, their two small children – a 4-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy – were unharmed in another room, along with the family dog. No signs of forced entry were found, and no weapon was recovered at the scene, suggesting the killer may have been someone familiar or had planned the attack meticulously.
Investigators quickly zeroed in on surveillance footage from the neighborhood, which captured a suspicious vehicle arriving and departing around the estimated time of the murders (between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.). The car was traced back to 39-year-old Michael David McKee, Monique’s ex-husband and a licensed vascular surgeon based in the Chicago/Rockford area of Illinois. McKee and Monique had been married from 2015 to 2017, divorcing amicably in Virginia without children together. She later remarried Spencer in 2020 and built a new family life.
McKee was arrested on January 10, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois, and charged with two counts of aggravated premeditated murder. He waived extradition shortly after and is expected to face trial in Ohio, where he has indicated plans to plead not guilty. Authorities linked him through vehicle tracking and other evidence, though a full motive has not been publicly detailed yet.
The DNA revelation emerged during the investigation into the family’s dynamics, uncovering that one child was conceived during Monique’s time after her divorce from McKee but before her marriage to Spencer – pointing to an affair that may have lingered unresolved. Family members of the victims reportedly were not shocked by McKee’s arrest, having suspected him early on but staying silent to avoid jeopardizing the probe.
This case highlights the dark intersections of jealousy, past relationships, and hidden secrets that can erupt into violence. The surviving children are now in the care of relatives, facing a future forever altered by unimaginable loss and shocking truths. As the legal process unfolds, more details may emerge about what drove a successful doctor to allegedly cross state lines and commit such a heinous act.
