A devastating wrong-way crash in Fort Bend County, Texas, has left a 3-year-old boy orphaned just days before Christmas, shattering a young family in an instant. Diego Peña Jr., 26, Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, 27, and their 5-year-old daughter Camila Peña were killed when their vehicle was struck head-on by an alleged impaired driver early on December 21, 2025. The family’s unnamed 3-year-old son, affectionately called Dieguito, was the sole survivor from their car, airlifted to a hospital in critical but stable condition, facing multiple surgeries and a long recovery.

The family of four, from Harris County, was heading home northbound on the Grand Parkway (State Highway 99) near FM 1464 around 2 a.m. after attending a holiday party. Authorities say 27-year-old Majesti Faith Lee was driving southbound in the northbound lanes at high speed when she collided with the Peña family’s vehicle. Lee, the only other survivor, was arrested and charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. Officials confirmed alcohol as a contributing factor, with charges pending further toxicology results.

Family members described Diego and Lizbeth as devoted parents whose “world revolved around their children.” Camila was remembered for her “contagious smile” and love of school and being a big sister. A GoFundMe organized by relatives has raised over $78,000 to cover Dieguito’s medical expenses, funerals, and support for extended family now caring for him.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating, noting the crash highlights ongoing concerns about wrong-way driving on the Grand Parkway—issues raised in reports dating back years. No prior details on Lee’s driving history have been released.

This senseless loss has resonated deeply nationwide, serving as a stark reminder of the irreversible consequences of impaired driving during the holidays. Communities are rallying with support, while advocates renew calls for stricter enforcement and awareness.

Our thoughts are with Dieguito and the grieving Peña and Contreras families during this unimaginable time.
