On the morning of September 23, the 2025 Ballon d’Or award ceremony ended with the victory belonging to Ousmane Dembele (PSG), while Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) finished second and almost made history at the age of 18. After the ceremony, the father of the Barca prodigy had a strong and confident message about his son’s future.

FC Barca’s young talent, Lamine Yamal is considered one of the heavy contenders and many people have believed that he will win.

Despite only finishing second in the Ballon d’Or race, Yamal showed respect for Dembele on stage when the French striker was named. Soon after, Lamine Yamal’s father, Mr. Mounir Nasraoui, made confident comments in front of the camera.

He greeted the Spanish fans and confirmed that his son will win the Ballon d’Or next year. “Next year will be ours,” Mounir Nasraoui declared.

Despite missing out on the Ballon d’Or, Yamal went on to go down in history by becoming the first player to win the Kopa Cup twice in a row. This is an award for the best under-21 player in the world.

He surpassed other young talents such as Desire Doue, Joao Neves, Estevao and Kenan Yildiz. Winning the Kopa Cup for the second time in a row is a recognition of his talent and constant progress in club and national team colours.

The Ballon D’or is an award organized by France Football magazine, to honor outstanding individuals, teams and coaches in the 2024-2025 season.

According to the announcement of France Football, the Ballon d’Or was selected based on three criteria: individual performance, collective achievement and fair-play spirit. 50 journalists from the top 50 countries in the men’s FIFA rankings and 50 journalists from the top 50 countries in the women’s FIFA rankings voted to choose the owner of the Ballon d’Or.

Each journalist was selected to select 10 players, scoring from 15 to 1. The person with the highest total score is the winner.
