The Sherman family in Texas is about to welcome their first baby girl, breaking a 108-year-old tradition of only giving birth to their sons.

Michael Sherman Jr., a Montgomery County firefighter, and his wife Joacquia announced the good news at a family gathering on Sept. 7.

“It feels magical. I’m very honored because after more than a century, the family finally has a little girl,” Michael said.

The last daughter of the Sherman family, Orah Belle Sherman, was born in 1917.

Michael Sherman Sr., Michael Jr.’s father, said it was a momentous event. “I have three sons, my dad has two, and so does my uncle. Our family is only all boys,” he said.

Grandmother Chantene Newman believes her future granddaughter is a special person. “I believe he will make history in the Sherman family,” she said.

The baby girl is expected to be born in March 2026, the younger brother of 5-year-old Mekhai.

The Sherman family is planning to contact the Guinness World Records Organization to see if their all-son birth streak sets any records.
