Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is expected to leave after Arne Slot left him out of the squad to face Crystal Palace, while Nottingham Forest made an approach earlier in the window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tsimikas has predominantly been a backup left-back to Andy Robertson since he joined the club, rotating in and out of the side, mainly in cup competitions. The 29-year-old may have been expecting to be used in a similar role for the 2025/2026 campaign, but Liverpool’s transfer business has likely changed his situation.

Milos Kerkez was signed earlier in the summer window from fellow Premier League side Bournemouth, and the Hungarian international started for Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. It appears that Tsimikas is now third choice, with Robertson named among the substitutes, meaning a departure is looking likely before the market closes in September.

Fabrizio Romano: Tsimikas to Leave Liverpool This Summer

Kostas Tsimikas

Reporting on X, Romano has confirmed that Tsimikas is expected to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window after he was left out of the squad to face Crystal Palace in the Community Shield at the weekend. The Greek left-back was omitted from the squad due to his likely departure, with Nottingham Forest already making an approach to secure his signature.

There’s no doubt Tsimikas is more than capable of being a regular in the Premier League, he’s just been unfortunate to be behind a player of Robertson’s calibre over the last few years. Kerkez’s arrival will make it even trickier for him to find regular minutes, so a departure this summer will be beneficial for all parties involved.

Tsimikas could be a smart addition for Nottingham Forest, especially if they can pick up him for a reasonable fee. The Greek defender only joined for a fee of around £12m, five years ago, so it shouldn’t cost an awful lot for Forest to prise him away from Anfield, especially considering he’s now the third choice left-back under Slot.
