In a chilling case gripping New York City, 11-year-old Jacob Pritchett, a nonverbal boy with autism who requires full-time care, remains missing months after being reported gone—and his own mother continues to claim he never existed.
Jacob was last reliably seen in April 2025, spotted by a property manager near the family’s NYCHA apartment in Brownsville, Brooklyn. His disappearance wasn’t officially reported until October 2025, when an Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) investigator conducted a welfare check at the Howard Avenue residence and found no trace of the child.
What followed was a bizarre series of denials from his 50-year-old mother, Jacqueline Pritchett. During initial questioning, she insisted she was “barren” and had no children, flatly rejecting the existence of a son named Jacob. Police returned days later with ACS workers, who presented Jacob’s birth certificate clearly listing her as the mother. Confronted with the official document, she maintained her story, refusing to provide any information about his whereabouts.
The investigation has since taken even stranger turns. Authorities revealed that Jacqueline bears a tattoo of the name “Jacob” on her arm—a permanent mark that directly contradicts her repeated claims. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny described the mother’s stance during interviews: she continued to assert she had no child named Jacob, even as evidence mounted against her account.
Jacob, described as having a medium complexion, brown eyes, and black hair, is completely dependent on others due to his nonverbal autism and vulnerability. He stands small for his age, leading some neighbors to mistake him for much younger. With no photos widely available of him recently, police released a composite sketch to aid the search.
Efforts to locate Jacob have extended beyond Brooklyn. Police previously searched a landfill upstate in Monroe County, following potential leads, though nothing conclusive emerged. The case has evolved into a possible homicide investigation as time passes without any sign of the boy. Family members, including the mother’s sister, reported seeing Jacob in early 2025, adding to the timeline puzzle.
Jacqueline Pritchett faced Family Court contempt proceedings for failing to produce the child and was held at Rikers Island for a period before release. She has invoked silence in further questioning, leaving investigators frustrated and the public desperate for answers.
As February 2026 progresses, the NYPD urges anyone with information—no matter how small—to contact detectives. The haunting question lingers: What happened to Jacob Pritchett, and why would a mother deny her own son’s existence while carrying his name inked on her skin? The search continues, but with each passing day, hope fades for a safe return.
