In a devastating turn to what began as a hopeful holiday season, authorities in Bexar County, Texas, announced on December 30, 2025, that a body was discovered during the intensive search for 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who vanished early on Christmas Eve morning.
Camila, a college student with dreams of a career in orthodontics before recently switching to business studies, was last seen around 6:58 a.m. on December 24 outside her family home in northwest Bexar County. Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s doorbell camera captured a figure believed to be her checking inside her car before walking away on foot. She left behind her cellphone, powered off in her room, and most belongings—only taking her car keys and possibly her driver’s license.
Her mother, Rosario Olmos, initially assumed Camila had gone on her usual morning walk, a routine activity for the young woman. Concern grew when she didn’t return within the expected time. Rosario searched the neighborhood and contacted relatives, including Camila’s father and recent ex-boyfriend, but no one had seen her. The family soon alerted the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, triggering a massive search effort involving local deputies, volunteers, the FBI, and even monitoring of border crossings due to Camila’s dual U.S.-Mexican citizenship.
Dashcam video released later showed a lone walker matching Camila’s description—wearing a baby-blue and black hoodie, matching pajama bottoms, and white shoes—heading north on a nearby road. Authorities classified her as in “imminent danger,” citing concerns over potential mental health struggles, including undiagnosed depression and prior mentions of suicidal thoughts. Camila had recently gone through a mutual breakup, though investigators noted it appeared amicable with no signs of foul play from that angle.
The breakthrough came swiftly during a renewed ground search on December 30. Just minutes into the operation, search teams located a body in a grassy field near a landscaping company, only a few hundred yards from the Olmos family home—an area previously checked. The clothing matched Camila’s last known outfit, and a firearm was recovered nearby. The gun belonged to a relative and had been reported missing, adding layers to the investigation.
Sheriff Javier Salazar emphasized it was too soon to confirm the body’s identity, with the medical examiner tasked to determine both identification and cause of death. However, authorities stated no foul play is suspected at this stage, pointing toward possible self-harm given the circumstances and Camila’s reported emotional challenges.
The community rallied fiercely in the days prior, with over 100 volunteers, family from California and Mexico, and prayer vigils supporting the search. Camila’s father, Alfonso Mendoza, described her as always smiling and affectionate, while friends remembered her as cheerful and dedicated.
As the new year approaches, this case serves as a somber reminder of mental health vulnerabilities, especially during holidays. The family awaits official confirmation, hoping for closure amid profound grief. Investigations continue to piece together Camila’s final moments.
