According to a new report, we apparently got it all wrong about why The View hasn’t mentioned what’s going with Jimmy Kimmel’s show.
Since the news that Kimmel’s late-night show was shelved indefinitely, fans are shocked that panelists Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sara Hines haven’t brought it up on The View.
When the cohosts of The View neglected to mention Kimmel during their Sept. 18 episode, which aired one day after Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled off the air, viewers wondered why they stayed quiet on the topic.
Recently, the news of Kimmel being pulled off the air has triggered strong reactions from politicians, Hollywood celebrities, and fellow late-night hosts, but not The View.
In the following episode on Sept. 19, the panelists didn’t bring up the late-night host again, leading to more speculation and rumors that they were censored behind the scenes.
However, an insider told People that the reports that there’s “chaos” behind the scenes or “pressure” on The View are “false” and the women are just “focused” on doing their jobs. “As always, the team is focused on doing the job of producing a daily talk show and having thoughtful conversations at the table,” the source said.
To be fair to the people who are considering The View’ssilence is a result of censorship or pressure — FCC Chair Brendan Carr did hint the daytime talk show may be under scrutiny in regard to the FCC’s equal opportunity rule.
During an appearance on The Scott Jennings Radio Show, Carr said, “I think it’s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether The View and some of the programs that you have still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place.”
What started it all happened during Kimmel’s Sept. 15 opening monologue, where he mentioned the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was killed at a campus event at Utah Valley University a week before.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Jimmy said.
Nexstar Media, which owns and operates over 200 local television stations across the US, chose not to air Jimmy Kimmel Live! after his remarks about Kirk. Sinclair followed suit. Carr praised Nexstar’s and Sinclair’s decision, and Disney’s ABC pulled Kimmel’s show indefinitely.
Amid the Kimmel’s suspension, the FCC chair even toldCNBC’s Squawk on the Street that “we’re not done yet” with changes to “the media ecosystem”.
So perhaps, it’s only speculation now why The View hasn’t mentioned Jimmy Kimmel, but it’s not far-fetched to believe this is all by design. What are your thoughts? Let’s talk about in the comments.
